MONTH OF OCTOBER 2010

NATIONAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH IN NORTH CAROLINA

Safe Space Inc. a non-profit domestic violence agency serving Franklin County, NC will recognize National Domestic Violence Awareness Month with several events in October.

Community members are invited to join Safe Space Inc., Board of Directors, staff and supporters in remembering victims and survivors at our 12th Annual Candlelight Vigil on October 19, 2010 on the steps of the Main Building of  Louisburg College at 6:00.  The vigil will include comments and remembrances by community members and survivors of domestic violence.  The Purple Shoe Memorial and Clothesline Project will be displayed.

Survivors, victims, their family members and others whose lives have been touched by DV are encouraged to raise public awareness about the problem through the Clothesline Project.  It will be held on October 5th at 6:30 at the Louisburg Police Training Center.  T-shirt are decorated by the victims and survivors and displayed through the year at various functions. 

Customer Appreciation Day at the Safe Space Thrift Store will be held on October 22nd.  This event is held each year to show our appreciation to the customers who support us through out the year.  Special sale events will be held during the day and light refreshments are available for our customers. 

Appreciation Baskets will be present to various organization during the week of October 13th to all those who have supported our agency during the past year.  Our community leaders. police and sheriff departments, attorneys and many more will be given a small basket of goodies.

November 2010

Thanksgiving Day will be just around the corner.  Each year we try to provide food for Thanksgiving Day to those who have experienced domestic violence in their lives.  We supply the families and children who are at the shelter during this time with a wonderful turkey dinner with all the trimmings.  If you would to help with donations of food or money to purchase food for these events, please give our office a call at 495-5599.

We will hold our 2nd Annual Toy Store Sale on November 13th at the Louisburg Police Training Center from 9:00 until 12:00 noon.  This event is held whenever we have a donation from the community where we can offer toys and small items for sale at a low cost for those who need help with their Christmas purchases.  We try to have small toys and small items for the mothers that can be purchased at cost to help them have a happier Christmas.   If you would like to donate new toys or give a donation where a toy may be purchased give us a call  at 497-5599.  This sale is open to the public and all proceeds go to support services at Safe Space.

 

December 2010

Our annual Client and Children's Christmas Party will be held this year on December 7th at Louisburg Baptist Church.  This event is held for domestic violence victims we have worked with this past year and any other DV families that we know are still dealing with the affects of DV in their lives.  This party is by invitation only and Santa always arrived with special gifts for the children,.  Again, if you would like to support this event, please call 497-5599

January 2010

Our annual Volunteer Training is scheduled for January 22 at the Louisburg Police Training Center.  Time and schedule will be released at a later date.
