About the Role
▪ Maintain order and safety in the shelter.
▪ Interact with and support clients as needed. Help to identify resources that may assist clients in meeting goals; link clients with local resources as necessary and appropriate.
▪ Assist clients who struggle with substance abuse and/or mental illness in having a successful stay at the shelter and in accessing services from local mental health and substance abuse providers as appropriate.
▪ Provide coverage for the crisis line while on duty.
▪ Maintain daily log regarding client interactions and shelter activities.
▪ Process Lethality Assessment Protocol with high danger clients.
▪ Light housekeeping, keeping the office and staff areas tidy.
▪ Receive and record shelter donations.
▪ Enforce shelter policies and procedures while on duty.
▪ Maintain current knowledge of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.
▪ Attend all staff meetings
▪ Attend appropriate training and conferences when possible. 24 hours of in-service training will be required on an annual basis.
▪ Agree to and practice agency policy entitled “Agreements to Guide Interaction in an Empowering Environment.”
▪ Maintain open communication with the shelter manager.
▪ Maintain the confidentiality of clients, client services and information made available within the process of providing direct services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Requirements
High School Diploma and/or an Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree with knowledge and experience in the human services field, personal experience as a survivor of domestic violence, work experience in the field of domestic violence/sexual assault, or a combination of all.
